What Is Running Back Weight Training? Learn Position Specific Skill Training

In a sport like American football, running back is a very important position and running back agility training is a very important part of the training. In any sport, and for any walk of life for that matter, people like to follow the example of stars who have been successful and American football cannot be an exception to this glorious norm.

Chris Johnson, who plays as a running back for Tennessee Titans, is one of the major star performers in the sport, known for his high levels of fitness. A lot regarding running back football training can be learnt from him.

Tom Shaw, the coach of Tennessee Titans, often accompanies Johnson during his training. He says Johnson does not work out like a typical bodybuilder, intent on piling on the muscle. He says that Johnson attempts to increase his speed and explosiveness through his training. The off-season training needs to be noted over here. Jammer is one of the most important exercises that he does. He does 2 sets of this and it increased to 3 by the time the off-season comes to an end. It normally has 6-8 repetitions. It is a part of his running back private training.

Thanks to this exercise, if any defender attempts to land a high tackle on Johnson he can just stiffen his arms and push him away from himself. The jammer exercise is basically a simulation of the said move. Curl is also an important part of his training. He performs 3 sets of this exercise with 10 repetitions each. He does this while lying on the ground. It is much harder to pull this off since the knees cannot be brought into play over here. Running back speed training drills are pretty important as well.

The single leg squat is also an important part of his repertoire. He performs 3 sets of this exercise with 8 repetitions each. This exercise makes sure that Johnson is able to maintain his balance. He does this exercise in a Smith machine and assumes a lunge position to do the same. For more information on runningback weight training please visit us today!
